Last week we welcomed in our newest partnership with ‘Poached’ in Beckenham, based opposite the station, it’s a little off the coffee map, but has certainly embraced the Aussie inspired brunch revolution that has exploded across London in the past few years. The exposed wooden paneling, clipboard menus and smashed avocado on toast offering is reminiscent of what has become standard for café culture in London, but there is an authenticity they achieve through the small, intimate space and family feel that truly sets it apart from the rest.
For a brunch style café, comparatively, it’s very affordable with plenty of dishes to choose from. The food looks delicious with some innovative combinations and recipes available on the menu, all prepared visibly from the restaurant in the open kitchen. They have clearly mastered the menu with dishes going out efficiently and served with genuine smiles. The bubbly nature of the owner Luke and his family who are closely involved with the running of the business clearly shines and is most probably the reason you will always find the small space packed over the lunch period.
Luke clearly understands what he’s doing behind the bar with great attention cleanliness and detail as well as a good understanding of brewing parameters. We have supported them to introduce an on demand grinder, which will ensure that the coffee stays fresher for longer, and improve their speed of service and extraction potential. They are going to be serving our Press Blend; 50% Columbia & 50% El Salvador. The espresso will be smooth, balanced and nutty; perfect with milk or served black. We are really looking forward to our partnership with Poached – do drop by and give these guys a visit if you find yourself in the area.
